Welcome back to another episode of Local Search Tuesdays. This week, I’m sharing some exciting news – Google is now offering video verification for Google Business Profiles!

Typically, Google has required postcard verification, with the thought being that it would be harder to create fake listings if an actual address had to be used. Unfortunately, that results in a delay, since the cards take 12-14 business days to arrive, and in many areas, even longer.

Now, the Google Business Profile Manager is offering a video verification as part of the process of creating a new profile.

You’ll see a QR code that lets you initiate the video verification call, so it’s easier to do the call when you’re at the location and are ready to verify.

Before it displays the code, Google outlines the things you’ll need to include in the video verification call:

You’ll need to start outside, so you can show your location and get a shot of the outside of your business. Include a street sign if it’s nearby, and any neighboring businesses. Be sure to include a shot of your signage.

You’ll also need to show the interior of your business. Walkthrough the entrance and show your interior, including any desks or equipment used in the day-to-day operation of your business.

You’ll also need to show proof of management, which is a fancy way of saying that you need to show that you have access to areas or items that only employees can access.

This should make it a lot easier for businesses to set up new profiles and drastically shorten the wait to get verified.

That’s all the time we’ve got for today, so you know what that means.

We totally just high-fived ‘cause you learned something awesome. Thanks for watching, and we’ll see you again next week for another episode of Local Search Tuesdays.
