Welcome back to another episode of Local Search Tuesdays. This week, we’re talking about reviews again because Bright Local just released their annual consumer review survey.
This is the fourteenth year that Bright Local has conducted their annual review survey, and there’s some cool stuff in there that you definitely need to check out. Head over to the Bright Local site to check out the full study. You can go to bit.ly/brightlocal-reviews-2024 to check it out. A few key bits that were interesting, thirty six percent of consumers used two review sites when deciding on local businesses and forty-one percent use three or more sites. Eighty-eight percent of consumers will choose a business that responds to all customer reviews compared to just forty-seven percent who would choose a business that doesn’t respond to reviews at all. Fifty-eight percent of consumers preferred AI written review responses when shown one that was written by by AI and another that was written by a human.
Thirty-four percent of consumers look to Instagram and twenty-three percent use TikTok as alternative sources of local business reviews.
More than half of consumers expect to see review responses within two to three days, and shockingly, incentivized reviews are much more common, even though it’s completely against Google’s rules to do so. Forty-five percent of consumers surveyed were offered a discount for leaving a review. Thirty three percent of consumers surveyed were offered a free gift or free services for leaving a review.
Twenty five percent were entered into a price drop, twenty four percent were offered loyalty points or some sort of loyalty reward scheme, and twenty three percent were offered cash.
