Welcome back to another episode of Local Search Tuesdays. Halloween is this week, so you know what that means… it’s time for this year’s list of the best horror movies!
For those of you who haven’t been watching for long, I’m a massive movie nerd. I’ve got 26 different movies tattooed on me, and I’m about a third of the way done with sleeving up my left leg with horror movie characters. Every Halloween, instead of sharing SEO tips, I share a list of the best horror movies to check out.
Over the years, I’ve shared underrated or rarely seen horror movies, best sequels, the best stuff to watch on streaming… but for this year’s list, I wanted to share a list of the best horror movies to watch that have come out this year.
At number 10 this year: Salem’s Lot
Based off the Stephen King book, this was a fresh take that was released straight to streaming on Max – but it’s really fun and it has some killer sequences.
Number 9: Abagail
A lot of people crapped all over this one, but I really enjoyed it. It’s a fun twist on the “criminals not knowing what they’re dealing with” story, and the actress who plays Abagail really nails the role.
Number 8: Arcadian
I’ve always been a huge fan of Nic Cage, so I’m loving the recent renaissance he’s experiencing. This was pretty under the radar, but it’s a really cool post-apocalyptic story about a father and his sons surviving after monsters have decimated humanity.
Number 7: Maxxxine
This is the final film in Ty West’s X film series, and it picks up after the events of X and follows Maxine Minx as she tries to make it in Hollywood while a serial killer is on the loose.
Number 6: Baghead
This is probably the least-known movie on this year’s list. When her dad dies, a young woman inherits the family pub and finds out about a sinister creature in the basement. Please watch this one, it has one of the best twists I’ve ever seen in a horror movie.
Number 5: Late Night with the Devil
Supposedly a found footage movie about the time a possibly possessed girl was the guest on a late night talk show – and all hell breaks loose. It’s seriously awesome.
Number 4: Blink Twice
I was really shocked by this one – Zoe Kravitz wrote and directed it, and it follows a few girls who get invited to a rich billionaire’s private island… and things quickly get super weird and almost everyone dies. That’s really not a spoiler, you have to see how insanely awesome this movie is.
Number 3: In a Violent Nature
This is one of the coolest ideas for a horror movie in ages. It’s a slasher movie told from the point of view of the supernatural killer, and it’s got some really awesome kill scenes.
Number 2: Longlegs
Again, big Nic Cage fan, and he goes utterly gonzo in this one. It’s about an FBI agent who’s placed on a cold case, trying to help solve a 20-year–long murder spree. Watch for the amazing over-the-top Nicolas Cage performance, stay for the unbelievably awesome twist at the end.
And if you know anything about me or have seen any of the past Halloween episodes, you won’t be surprised that my top pick this year is Terrifier 3. Art the Clown goes on a murderous Christmas rampage 5 years after the events of Terrifier 2. I didn’t think it was possible, but Damien Leone topped the second movie with even more extreme gore… but also an incredibly engrossing story. Trust me, this is going to go down in history as one of the top horror movies of all time. Make sure you see it in the theater with lots of people, it’s the most fun I’ve had in a theater in years.
And with that, we’re out of time for this week’s episode – so you know what that means. Put your hand on the screen right here:
We totally just high-fived ‘cause you learned something awesome. Thanks for watching, and we’ll see you again next week for another episode of Local Search Tuesdays.
