Welcome back to another episode of Local Search Tuesdays. This week, I’m sharing an exciting update that will help you connect with more customers from your Google Business Profile… Chat is back, baby!
If you’ve been online for more than about 13 minutes, you probably already realize that “Google’s gonna Google”. They just love to release new elements, then take them away, then change the name of something, then change it back, then test something, then decide not to do it. In fact, since you started watching this video, Google changed the name of Google Business Profiles three times.
Seriously though, Google does change things all the time. At the end of July last year, Google killed the chat messaging feature on Google Business Profiles. And now, just over six months later, it’s back… But with an exciting update.
Instead of some wonky internal chat system, the GBP chat feature simply uses text messaging or WhatsApp. It’s super simple to set up too. When you’re logged into your profile, click the contact tab and you’ll see this:
Use the dropdown to select text message or WhatsApp and then enter your number. Then click save and you’re done!
Now, whenever someone sees your GBP on a mobile device, they see this nifty little “text message” link.
This works with any textable phone number or WhatsApp number, so it’s incredibly easy to use and it’s easily accessible to anyone on the planet.
